FEBRUARY TO DO LIST.


Check out the information and a "to do list" based on the plant hardiness zones across Canada, United States, and Europe.

If you do not know what planting zone you live in check the chart for the country you live in.

ZONES 1-3

  • Lay out your garden on paper, remember to rotate your crops, and develop a planting schedule.
  • Order your seeds, plants, and any other supplies you will need.
  • Start your onions, leeks, and celery indoors. Learn more about planting seeds.
  • Check stored veggies to make sure everything is okay, remove anything that is decayed or moldy. It is best to use them now as quickly as you can.
  • Buy seed starting flats or disinfect your last year’s with a bleach solution for your tomatoes.
  • Buy a copy of My 2010 Vegetable Garden Journal and resolve to write in it regularly this year!


ZONES 4-5

  • Lay out your garden on paper, remember to rotate your crops, and develop a planting schedule.
  • Check your stored root veggies to make sure everything is still okay, use up them as quickly as possible.
  • Check tools and make any repairs that may be needed. Clean and sharpen blades.
  • Start your onion, leeks, and celery. Learn more about growing seedlings.
  • Watch for preseason sales at garden centers and pick up supplies.
  • Buy seed starting flats or disinfect your last year’s with a bleach solution for your tomatoes.
  • Buy a copy of My 2010 Vegetable Garden Journal and resolve to write in it regularly this year!


ZONES 6-7

  • Locate some good sources of organic mulch. Save your newspaper or cardboard to put underneath the mulch to keep the weeds down.
  • Clean out all your stored veggies that are not in good shape.
  • Review last year’s notes and start planning your crop rotation for this year.
  • Start your onion, leeks, and celery. Learn more about growing seedlings.
  • Start tomato seeds late in the month, using new or sterilized containers. You will have to have heat under them and possible grow lights.
  • Buy a copy of My 2010 Vegetable Garden Journal and resolve to write in it regularly this year!


ZONES 8-10

  • Clean out all your stored veggies that are not in good shape.
  • Review last year’s notes and start planning your crop rotation for this year.
  • Start your onion, leeks, celery, lettuce, and brassicas. Learn more about growing seedlings.
  • Start tomato seeds late in the month, using new and sterilized containers. You will have to have heat under them and possible grow lights.
  • Watch broad beans for black aphid infestation, use a light soap solution accordingly.
  • Check supplies for your spring season.
